Connection Issues
How to fix "Connection timed out" or "Failed to connect" in FiveM
Updated 2026-11-06
A connection timeout usually means your game cannot reach the server or is stuck on corrupted cache. Try these fixes in order.
Quick fixes
- Close FiveM fully and reopen it, then reconnect.
- Restart your router and PC.
- Turn off any VPN or proxy, then try again. If you normally need a VPN, try a different server location.
- Allow FiveM through Windows Firewall and your antivirus.
Clear the FiveM cache
Close FiveM, open %localappdata%\FiveM\FiveM.app\data, and delete the folders server-cache, server-cache-priv and cache (keep your settings). Start FiveM again; the first launch will re-download files and take longer.
Still not working?
- Check that the server is online in our Discord announcements.
- Try a different DNS such as 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8.
- Open a support ticket on Discord with a screenshot of the error and your F8 console.
